XOR BIO

XOR grew up on rave and dance music, but wishes to transcend the mindless "oonce oonce oonce." of the dance floor. Take elements of Techno, House, Drum & Bass and breathe in some pop sensibility. It's the exit of Rave. XOR was formed when Singer Hillary Ann and producer Brian Liston met at the prompting of mutual friends. They laid out a plan for an album on their first meeting. Hillary Ann had a mountain of lyrics to match Liston's stack of beats. Their styles blended easily as their musical influences were similar in Madonna, Massive Attack, Aphex Twin and Moby.
Hillary Ann grew up in Alaska singing Eskimo folk music and imitating TV commercials. Mom could understand the Folk Music, but the TV commercials drove her mad. She was steered toward voice lessons and competitions to fend off the Oscar Meyer theme. Hillary Ann eventually wound up in Madison Wisconsin where she became a staple in the local Jazz club circuit. She currently attends University of Wisconsin in Madison and studies fine art. Hillary Ann is easily recognized on the dance floor by her ever-present bright red shoes.
Brian ”Cheetah EL“ Liston is a Madison area Producer and Audio Engineer. Liston grew up in a musical family of a Band Conductor and Piano Teacher. Due to boredom and indecision, Liston learned to play any instrument he came in contact with. However, his first love has always been the synthesizer.
Liston cut his engineering chops in various Chicago studios before moving to Madison to work in Butch Vig’s world famous Smart Studios (Garbage, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana). In his off time, Liston has been a member of and shared the stage with: Urban Myth, E-OR, Citizen King, Little Blue Crunchy Things, Siggi Baulderson (from Sugarcubes, Bjork), Clyde Stubblefield (from James Brown) and Side Show.
Matini Van Lane has been a Madison bassist for 10 years with projects such as Mad Trucker Gone Mad, E-OR, FuzzDolly & Shit Bong. On his off time he enjoys taking fetish photography.
Mike Crawford has been an experimental guitarist in Wisconsin all his life. His specialty is making his own equipment out of whatever he finds laying around. Mike has played with Finger, Mandelorians & El Donk as well as his solo act.
Scott Beardsly is the busiest drummer in Wisconsin. He has worked for the BoDeans, Lorenzo's Music and more. Beat man he is.
